A Step Forward for Mental Health with Avion and Mind

With a focus on conversation and physical activity, Avion aims to contribute to better mental and physical health. Throughout June and July, Avion’s visitors can raise money for the nonprofit organization Mind and its work to combat mental health issues.“With this project, you have the opportunity to help others feel better by getting active, one step at a time,” says Center Manager Mia Eskilsson.

Between June 26 and July 13, Avion customers can collect steps to support the fight against mental health issues. Steps can be collected at various times during the campaign period and registered in the Info & Lounge at Avion. The goal is for participants to collectively reach 1 miljon steps—at which point Avion will donate 20,000 kronor to the organization Mind and its work addressing mental health issues.

“It’s well documented that exercise and physical activity affect your mental well-being, but here you actually have the opportunity to help others feel better, too, by racking up steps. Everyone wins,” says Center Director Mia Eskilsson.

Icebreaker cards that spark conversation

The collaboration with Mind has been ongoing since 2020, and the partnership is now being taken to the next level as Mind invites people to “Varmprat” at Avion. This kicks off today, June 26, when Mind will be on site to participate in “Varmprat” and talk about its work. “We’re highlighting the importance of daring to take the conversation beyond small talk to deeper topics, since real and genuine conversations do a lot for mental well-being,” says Mona Wennberg, Development Manager at Mind.

– Here at Mind, we’ve created “Small Talk Cards” with questions designed to help you start a close and sincere conversation. We hope these will inspire you to take small talk to the next level with questions about life, the future, relationships, grief, and joy. You can borrow the “Warm Chat Cards” from Avion’s Info & Lounge this summer,” says Mona Wennberg, Development Manager at Mind.

A long-term effort

Mind is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about mental health issues and works to prevent suicide. Among other things, the organization operates helplines such as the Suicide Helpline, the Senior Helpline, the Parent Helpline, and the Life Helpline, which people can call if they are struggling with their mental health or have a loved one who is. In addition, Mind organizes seminars, conferences, training sessions, and discussions on mental health.

“Mental health issues are a growing problem in Sweden—especially among young people—and Mind is doing a fantastic job of supporting, helping, and educating people. We’d love to contribute to that effort, together with our visitors,” says Mia Eskilsson.

As a participant in the step-counting fundraiser, you’ll receive a water bottle as a thank-you for your help, but above all, you’ll be supporting Mind’s important work to improve mental health.

“A million steps might sound like a lot, but if 50 people participate, that’s only 1,200 steps a day for each participant. Together, we can literally take a step toward better mental health,” says Mia Eskilsson.

Step Store – Step Challenge!

  1. Go for a walk—short or long. Here are some tips: put on some good music in your headphones, listen to a podcast, or go for a walk with a friend. You can use any step-counting app you like or your phone’s built-in pedometer.
  2. Track your steps. Visit the Info & Lounge at Avion anytime between June 26 and July 13 to track your steps. Show the step counter on your phone, watch, fitness tracker, or traditional pedometer.
  3. As a thank-you, you'll receive a water bottle! You can track your steps multiple times during the campaign period, but only one water bottle per person will be given out.
